Outage help

Is it down, or is it just me?

Six quick checks to find out whether it's your device, your WiFi, your equipment or the provider.

  1. One device or all? If only one is offline, restart it and rejoin the WiFi.
  2. Look at the lights on the modem, fiber box or gateway. Red, orange or blinking means no signal.
  3. Check for an outage in your provider's app or site (below), or see Downdetector for reports.
  4. Restart in order: modem or fiber box, then router. See restart steps.
  5. Plug a laptop into the router. If wired works, your WiFi is the problem. See WiFi fixes.
  6. Check power and cables. Construction, landscaping and power shutoffs are common causes. See fire season.
Need to get online now? Use your phone's hotspot. For businesses, this is the case for a backup line.
Fake support numbers are common. Scam ads and look-alike sites pose as provider support, then ask for remote access to your computer or payment in gift cards. Use only the number on your bill, in the official app, or on the provider's own site.
